The survey is the heart of the app. Phase 1 covers 61 essential questions spanning Climate & Environment, Lifestyle, Cost of Living, Culture, and more. Questions use continuous sliders — not binary choices — so users can express nuance: not just "do you like hot weather?" but exactly how much relative to everything else. Critical questions are flagged to signal higher algorithm weight, giving users transparency into what drives their results. A second phase of deeper questions is available for users who want even higher match accuracy.

Weighted Scoring Algorithm — Five Scored Dimensions

Each slider answer maps to a weighted preference vector across five dimensions: Climate, Lifestyle, Economy, Social Vibe, and Livability. The algorithm accumulates these weights across all answers, then scores each city in the database against the user's vector. Cities are ranked by overall match percentage, and a confidence score reflects how consistently the user's answers aligned across dimensions. The result page shows a full breakdown — not just a match number, but why each city earned its spot.

Not everyone wants to answer 61 questions. City Roulette lets users select which regions of the US they're open to, then spin a random destination from that filtered pool. The result is a complete city profile — photo, tags, climate/lifestyle/economy scores, and the same action links as the full quiz. It's a lightweight, shareable counterpart to the main quiz that surfaces cities users might never have considered.

Cititype is a complete, authenticated web application — not just a quiz page. Firebase authentication handles user accounts with persistent quiz history. The nav includes Home, Take Quiz, City Roulette, and Browse Cities — a full product with multiple pathways. The teal-and-white color scheme, city skyline background, and card-based layout were designed to feel modern and trustworthy for a relocation decision context, distinct from generic quiz aesthetics.
